The service
Kupuna Check-In places an automated phone call to a senior ("kūpuna") at a time chosen at sign-up. If the kūpuna does not press 1 after three tries, or presses 2 to ask for help, we text and call the family contact, and the backup contact if the family contact does not reply. Family contacts may also receive a weekly summary text.
Not an emergency service
Kupuna Check-In does not call 911, does not monitor health, and is not a medical alert system. In an emergency, call 911. Calls and texts depend on phone networks and outside providers, and may be delayed or fail. We do not guarantee that every call or alert will be placed or received.
Who can sign up
You must be at least 18 years old. Before daily calls begin, we call the kūpuna to introduce the service and get their agreement. You agree that the phone numbers you give us belong to you, the kūpuna and your backup contact, and that your backup contact is willing to be contacted.
Text messages
Texts are optional. You can sign up without agreeing to texts; we then alert you and your backup contact by phone call only.
Program: Kupuna Check-In alerts. What you receive: alerts when your kūpuna misses a check-in call or asks for help, a welcome text when service starts, and a weekly summary. Frequency: varies; most weeks it is one text. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any text to opt out at any time; you will get one text confirming you are unsubscribed. Reply HELP for help or text or call 808-392-2341. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Opting out of texts does not cancel the phone calls; contact us to cancel the service.
Price, free trial and cancelling
Prices are shown on the sign-up page. While we are getting started, the first month is free. You can cancel at any time by contacting us; service stops right away and you will not be charged for later months.
Limits on our responsibility
To the extent allowed by law, Kupuna Check-In is not responsible for harm that results from a call or text that is missed, delayed or not delivered, or from anything that happens to the kūpuna. If we are found responsible for anything, the most we owe is what you paid us in the three months before the claim.
Changes
We may update these terms. If we make an important change, we will text the family contact before it takes effect.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Hawaiʻi.
